Created at the end of the 18th century, the Paris Catacombs hold the remains of some six million Parisians, whose bones were transferred from cemeteries. The part that's open to visitors- and it's a tiny stretch of the city's vast catacombs complex, narrow corridors dug from limestone quarries deep underground.
